One area that I focus on with all my clients is gait speed. Not just walking faster, but having the ability to vary speed. The act of walking faster engages more muscles, improves balance, requires deeper breathing, and improves our normal gait pattern and stability.

Today, I came across this great article from the New York Times Opinion page about Heather Lee, a speed walking racer in Australia. My favorite quote from the article:
